Oh, yeah. You’re a closet Seagulls fan. Admit it and come over to the dark side. We have cookies. This video was in heavy rotation in 1982 and scored the band their first top ten hit. (Despite their perception as a one hit wonder, they did have 2 other singles crack the top 10.) The video is a perfect time capsule of the New Wave genre (both the hair and the heavy use of synthesisers.)  We give it 5 guitars, cause we’re weird like that.

WATN? The band last toured in 2005.

This video gets 5 guitars if for no other reason than I said so! Round and Round is a classic 80’s rock/hairband/whatever you want to call it song. Ratt is often mislabeled as a one hit wonder, but they managed to release three subsequent albums that sold over a million copies each.

My one beef with the video is that the band is playing in the attic, but the album is called Out of the Cellar. Picky maybe, but it always bothered me.

WATN? After breakups, reunions, line-up changes, and the death of Robin Crosby, the band is back together and touring. Look for a new album in 2009.

Trivia: Comedian Milton Berle appears in the video. Warren DeMartini actually jumped through the ceiling himself. They couldn’t afford a stuntman.

Our first Saturday Night Sort of Live Clip! No, not that SNL.  MTV used to show concerts on the weekends during the 80’s.  We can’t stream entire live shows for you, but we will try to post a concert clip on Saturdays.

This week’s entry is from Rush. If you’ve never seen them live before, this should inspire you to catch them before they call it quits. Pound Note loves this song, and we give it 5 guitars!

Watching this video and watching Westerberg thrash his guitar makes you feel like you’re at a real Replacements show.  No frills. Just good music.

WATN? Paul Westerberg is still doing the solo thing, but the Replacements have been broken up since 1991. Deluxe editions of the early albums were released this year.
